01 Feb 2009 - What I Did On My Holiday, by Kevin R...
...wrote a 7,000 word essay on how the free market has failed us all, apparently.

7,000 words sounds impressive, but does it reach a more useful conclusion than his promised formula for calculating cricket scores relative to who was in power at the time, as presented during his speech at the Prime Minister’s XI?

Mr. Rudd began by saying he had come up with an equation to calculate the success or failure of the various cricket teams which had played during the terms of different Prime Ministers.

My first thought was that here was something only the mind of an Übernerd could conceive, but I was interested.

He used the proposition to have a dig at some of his predecessors, but ended by admitting he had been unable to produce the promised equation.

I know, it was just a bit of light entertainment over lunch which should not be compared in any way – even for a moment – to the really serious, really big essay.

But it does make me even less inclined to plow through all 7,000 words in case, once again, there is no punch line.
