| 14 Feb 2009 - Selfish Embryo Thwarts Mother's Holiday Plans... |
 |
There's been a great deal of discussion over the years about what a mother would be worth if she were paid for all the jobs she does.
This dilemma has never been satisfactorily resolved, but we do now know how much it is worth to inconvenience a woman with an unwanted child: $317,000.
This was the amount an appeal court awarded a lesbian couple after they ended up with one child too many (by their reckoning) after one of them underwent IVF.
We discussed the case at length and in detail on the radio program when it first became news.
Several issues remain and will for the life of all concerned.
Which child didn't they want and what kind of dynamic will there be in the group for the duration?
It was reported the first time around that one of the problems for the couple was that a planned trip had to be abandoned or postponed when they ended up with two children when they'd only ordered one.
The names of the women have never been publicly released, but it is unrealistic to think that the children won't get to hear of this.
