Dear Mike
We have been wondering what happened to you since Mark Parton took over your morning show. Initially we thought he was filling in while you were on holiday. Finally I found your website and now we know. Have to say we had this love/hate relationship with your morning programme over the years, but you were always on in the mornings anyway. My husband hates MP with a passion, he hated him when he was on FM - always calls him "that red headed git" (I keep telling him he is blonde!!). Like all your other listeners, we have also moved to 666 in the morning but have to say it isn't the same. 2CC management have made a bit mistake I think. All the best, if you are still in Canberra we would be happy to hear your dulcet tones again on our radio.

I enojyed hearing my friend on 2CC each morning. Even now I feel the loss of a special person greatly. My trip to Canberra each day passed quickly with your dulcet tones, wit, superior intellect and broad knowledge of all things that are important to the ordinary people in our region. The "replacement" has me losing my block in less than 10 minutes of the morning show and I quickly change to 666 as a poor alternative to what was an enjoyable and informative start to my day.
Parton has little to say of any import, but lots to say about himself. I'll break out the champagne when the questionalbe management of 2CC gets the message and removes this bore.

I suspect 2CC has lost many more listeners in the morning than they may choose to admit. The sooner you are re-instated or find another station within the Canberra region the better. At least we can then be assured the general public will be given a voice and more importantly know that their opinons are heard and respected.

Your loss if felt by many. Take care and bite the bullet soon by returning to the Canberra region airways quickly.

Wishing you and yours the best for the future. My fervent wish is that you will return in one manner of another. Just let us know when and where.

Warm regards from a dedicaed and intensely loyal listener who gave respect to man who truly earned it.

Meg.

It's such a loss to not hear you in the mornings when I'm at work or on the way to work. I thought Mark Parton was only filling in for you while you might be on leave. His show is really dull and I feel listening to him that he struggles to make a connection with the people who his is chatting or interviewing.. Every morning listening to you I felt like you were very charming with the ladies, matched wits with the best of the people who you interviewed, you were funny but also asked and pressed for answers when some were trying to talk you off the subject. By habit I turn on 2cc everymorning.. and listen for a few minutes before I get bored with the current program. I cringe at the time when Mark talks with Steve price.. just akward him chatting with the days topics on the Steve Price show. Anyway I've never met you but feel that i've known you for a long time. It would be great to hear you again in Canberra.. if not thanks and all the best.

Mike, it is now 2 months since you left 2CC and you are missed just as much today as you were then. I am sure we all felt you were one of us and would be with us forever. 2CC has made a grave mistake and for sometime I had the impression the station wasn't well managed, now I am sure of it. The many technical hitches, particularly late at night with cross over broadcasts were infuriating. As a long time 2CC listener, I find it difficult to comprehend how such and eloquent and intelligent broadcaster with your superb interviewing skills and broad knowledge of current affairs could be replaced by a stuttering and politically correct air-head, who has no depth. I do hope you come back on air, there are no other options. I have given 2CC breakfast the flick, as I did with Channel 9 when they replaced the newsreader.

I have only just found out that you had left (or been removed from)2CC. I had thought that you had gone on long service leave!!
I miss your talks and also hearing Jason Morris' (?)comments on current issues. you were always so objective and I feel "educated" listening to you and him. I switched from 666 to 2CC 3 years ago but don't feel very motivated to stay on now I'm afraid. I hope you get more appreciation that you deserve whatever you will be doing in the future.

I agree with all the comments above and feel there is no need to repeat what was already (very well) said. Just that 2CC lost two more listeners...

I hope you are not going to retire, but continue your good work. By the way, have you thought about an Internet radio station?

Dear Mike,

I am missing you terribly at the start of the days during the week. I enjoyed taking you with me on my morning walks, keeping me informed and entertained. I would love to hear you back where you belong, but I suppose I wouldn't blame you if you didn't ever go back, not a very good atmosphere to work in I guess. Looks like there was a "Peter Overton" situation (he undermined Mark Ferguson, behind the scenes by getting friendly with management on a social level), that took place at your station. Looks like these things occur on radio as well as television. You know what they say, "Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer". Mark Parton is probably a "nice bloke" and all, but lets be honest he belongs on the FM dial. I don't read "The Canberra Times", maybe someone could tell me how to find the above mentioned article. Someone should tell Mark, (I notice no calls seem to be going through to air about this matter), to tell the real story. Instead of trying to make himself out to be totally innocent and uninvolved in the matter. I haven't got anymore to say, because I'm too disapointed and disheartened on the matter and how it came about, let alone "LOST" in the mornings now.

Thanks for your years of keeping me company Mike.

All the best to you,
Hope to hear you soon somewhere.

I remember vividly listening to you on one of my trips to Canberra before i relocated to the region; you were talking about "the men in grey coats". i had no idea what u were talking about and when i found out it made me hoot with laughter.

Well, what to do about this situation with 2CC - what on earth is 2CC thinking of running "how green is my cactus" not just once, but twice during the breakfast show. That, and the fact that the "pretender" in your chair just doesn't cut the mustard and the way they re-run interviews from the previous days' show really did it for me. i've had to resort to Radio National and 666 in the mornings - how sad is that!!

If 2CC thought the ratings were a concern before you departed, just watch them plummet now!

OK, its been a couple of weeks, you've had a little rest and its now time you got back on the air waves in Canberra. Be sure to let us know where to find you. Missing your wit and intellect......

Mike,
After following your program for many years across the Sydney talkback channels it was such a pleasant surprise to find you plying your trade in the ACT. Your programs have always been an entertaining mix of news, information and humour.

You've got the undeniable ability to extract what we , the listeners , wanted to hear from your political guests. I always enjoyed when your guests finally awoke to the fact they were now in a corner and the Boom was being lowering.

Your humour is as subtle as a sledgehammer, and
your program should have always carried the warning "A TRUE RADIO CRAFTSMEN" in action.

Our loss will be someone elses gain.

Best Wishes to yourself and family,
Thanks Denis.

I have addressed this to the program person at 2cc.

He has already stuffed your radio station in my opinion. Dress him up as a fairy dressed in pink and let him loose over 'Commonwealth Bridge' for the morning as the 'Man about Town'. Surround him with the local pre schools and your ratings will go up. He is not what we the locals want. You are in the wrong job in my opinion. You should resign as a so called 'Program Director'. Go get a job with the 'WIGGLES'.

Dear Mr Jeffreys,

Though only in Canberra with a few fleeting months before your unjust and unsound dismissal, I found your conduct of the 2CC breakfast show delightful, instructive and near faultless. Having come from narrow-minded, provincial Adelaide where the Left controls breakfast radio like the Communists do China, and despairing at the degraded and degrading slavery with which Canberrans obey ACT Labor/Greens, your voice was like the sweet-sounding chord of liberty striking out for reason and progress. By these ears at least, you'll sorely be missed.

Best of luck, Peter.

(More for my own vanity, and to vent displeasure, I'll post my complaint to 2CC management below):

Dear Sir/Madam,

Recently arriving in Canberra for study, from Adelaide, I was most pleased to find your station's frequency and hear a continuous range of announcers who were alert, droll, inquisitive and matter-of-fact in their presentation. Above all, your previous breakfast announcer, Mr. Jeffreys, was esteemed for his elevated wit, political wisdom, genteel tact, keen curiosity which inspired probing questions of guests, all founded upon a free-thinking and intelligent conservatism. Every weekday morning my dorm radio was attuned to your station, and every morning fascinating discussions and waggish entertainments were heaped on the dedicated listener.

It was with dismay that I heard his replacement still announcing on Tuesday, April 28, after the public holiday, and thereby inferred, correctly, Mr. Jeffreys' firing. His successor is not equal to the comparison, nor able to retain this listener's loyalty. Simply put, he is as boring as hell. No doubt abounding in milky goodness and warm-hearted love, the replacement is a feebleminded children's party clown, whose comments are puerile, questions rambling and roundabout, on-air manner clumsy, and knowledge of political power as dull as it is deficient. An unassuming, vacuous dupe is worse than listening to pretentious and scornful ABC radio left-wing bigots.

Unfortunately, until the man with no brain and a personality better suited to kindergarten play-time is removed, and the commanding Mr. Jeffreys restored, this listener does not intend to waste his mornings on 2CC's latest prattle.

Yours, with the deepest respect,

Peter

You Memorandum always appreciated and your chats with Steve Price etc, great. We cannot take to your replacemnt Mark who is too wishy washy and totally annoying so we have been scanning the channels of both FM /AM but alas, all of which are providing no satisfaction. Bugger! No Mike in the mornings ??? You have to be kidding
The apprentice must have been in charge of the shop that day.
I am so disappointed and upset at this terrible news.
The radio station has been informed of my feelings and my decision to not listen to the inferior replacement.
I am now lost in the mornings. I didn't realise how my morning routine revolved so much around various parts of your show until there was no show.
I will really miss you Mike (although maybe not the interviews with Jon Stanhope on some Monday mornings - not my favourite way to start a week !!!). I hope you are not lost to Canberra radio forever.
Please keep us informed as to your movements in the future so we can at least have the chance to follow you.

I wonder if others emailed/contacted the management at 2CC to express concern and disappointment at the news of your being fired. I did and received a reply which was obviously sent out to all who wrote in – it wasn't personal at all and said nothing.

Someone else, commenting on this, asked if it were only him who had noticed an increase in adverts. lately. No, he isn't alone. We at our house have noticed it too. This must mean that your show, Mike, was a favourite with advertisers too. I wonder if it'll make a difference now that you are not there as a draw card.

Dear Mike, I don't read The Canberra Times, so got a surprise to hear Mark Parton Tuesday morning and an even bigger one when my enquiring phonecall to Bodana revealed you had been fired on the previous Friday. Whatever the reason behind it, although I realize, a well informed, articulate, conservative presenter was unusual in Canberra it's still disappointing in the extreme. Back to music in the mornings I guess.

Thanks for the years of morning ramblings you have brough our household over the last few years. One thing I am sure of is that Mike Jeffreys will go on to bigger and better things - 2CC on the other hand I'm less sure of. The educated listeners amongst us "get it" - we don't have to agree with your views, or take life too seriously if we are offended by your remarks. We want to be challenged, we want bit of controversy thrown in as well as the odd objectional remark to get a bit of debate going. Hi Mike!

Well, my first official day without you in my morning and it was HELL! I frantically surfed the channels trying to find something that would guide me through the chaos that is morning in my household and NOTHING! How can I waken at 7 for the news with Jane, contemplate your views on the current affairs in our local world and wider, yell at the radio during MLA interviews and then be glued again while you and Morrison discuss recent events....it can't be done without you! And I can even know what time it is by the sting you play at certain times..I get a rhythm to my day.

Now I must forage through the jungle that is internet radio searching for a pale imitation of what you brought to my day.

Saw your replacement this afternoon and told him I was distraught and wouldn't be listening to him. He does take it with a certain amount of grace and it comes as no surprise to him as I often tell him my views.

Come back to a station, any station SOON and get my life back in order.

Best wishes to you and yours...

Both my wife Lesley and I will miss you terribly. It was nice when the clock radio came on at 6:25AM (don't askk why this time slot) and hear your dolset tones and sensible views on life and living, compared to the mundane "the Government owes me a life" numnuts who live in this town. This also covers the the ACT Government.

Ahhh, what to do now. The ABC is catering for the abovementioned, so Les and I will have take a new approach and start talking to each other in the mornings. This a bit of a foreign concept after 28 years of marriage.

Please surface soon on the airwaves

Mike Jeffreys you will be greatly missed.
How could they let you go? Why wasn't I consulted?
The person taking your place is try-hard irritating.
You and Geraldine Douge are the only broadcasters who are capable of effortless reflective listening.
Your strong, instant analysis of any subject matter, summed up in a smart and pithy comment, frequently made me smile, or chuckle. Your ever-present humour and a sense of the absurd, along with your sound ethics and good sense, were the reasons I listend to 2CC in that time-slot.

Mike, I don't know what the hell's going on at 2CC, and I can't say that I care all that much because I won't be listening any longer.

As for your replacement - well, in my mind, that's like replacing The Stig with Wayne Swan.

The best of luck in whichever direction the radio dial of the future may take you.

Dear Mike,

Commercial radio is certainly a cut throat business! Although I did not agree with your conservative view of the world I always found your radio show entertaining. When it came to local politics you were fairly objective and gave all sides a fair hearing, even the Greens. I got the impression you might have eventually made peace with Katy Gallagher who seemed more willing to talk to you lately. Good luck and best wishes for the future.

Hi Mike.

Firstly, I have to agree with all the comments listed below. Very bad decision 2CC!

Your departure is not only a huge loss to Canberra Radio, it's a personal loss to me. I have listened to you on 2CC from day one and I'm not kidding when I say I have always considered you a 'family friend'.

Do you remember promoting my Gungahlin Weather Centre? - I have always been so grateful for your help in getting the word out in the early days.

I can't understand why 2CC has let you go - if it's about ratings - what a joke! We all know they don't tell the true story and judging by the number of commercials on 2CC lately - there is obviously enough people listening to convince advertisers to use the station. I suspect it must be something else - whatever it is I just hope you bounce back and that we all get to hear you on the air again soon. We will all support you Mike.

Anyway, all I can add is 'all the best my friend'. I wish you every happiness in the future and I hope your recent experience hasn't changed your opinion of Canberra. You have a lot of friends here Mike!

To you, Jack and 'the lady you know' - good luck, good bye - I for one will miss you.

I sent the following to 1206CC:

I am disheartened to learn about the sudden disappearance of Mike Jeffreys from the breakfast slot. I enjoyed Mike’s take on current events; it was a refreshing change from the uniform left view presented in much of the rest of the media. I particularly enjoyed his editorials and chats with Jason Morrison and semi-regular chats with the likes of Tim Blair and Andrew Bolt. Mike’s regular soapie segment was a nice diversion from the heavier issues of the day.

Replacing Mike with Mark Parton is, to say the least, is disappointing. Mark is undoubtedly a lovely chap but his PC, wishy-washy stance on most issues is excruciating to listen to. Unfortunately, this household will no longer be turning on 1206CC in the mornings – time to dust off the CD collection. Oh, and introducing How Green is My Cactus is also a retrograde step – I was listening to this pap 20 years ago.

A disappointed listener who has been listening for 13 years.

Sorry to hear about your departure, Mike. Canberra need an articulate, conservative voice. I'll miss your incisive comments and your wit. Good luck!

OH NO! What lousy news. You are going to missed by all of us that you educate, amuse, and generally start our days in the best way!

I may have to back to my music stations without you to entertain me each morning :-(

Good luck for the future Mike, hope it brings you all you could wish for.

I don't read the Canberra Times. Can you give me details of the article to access it online? And, please, this is the first I've heard about you leaving 2CC. To quote Pauline Hanson – "Please Explain". Are you really going? Where are you going? 2CC will definitely not be the same.

Hi Mike, what an absolute disgrace 2cc are. I could not believe what I was reading in the Canberra Times regarding your departure. No more Mike in the morning, too hard to comprehend, what were they thinking? The only person on the radio without a pc bone in their body. Whatever the future holds for you Mike I hope it is all good and leads you in the direction you are the most happy. Please let us know what you do so as we can once again listen to you whereever you may be as 2cc is now less many listeners.

All the best to you Mike and thanks so much for the entertainment and pleasure you have given me.

kindest regards Steve

Hi Mike,

Very sorry to see you go from 2CC. Canberra has just lost a great talent and a great breakfast show.

I will miss your memorandums, your chats with your regulars (especially Jason and Donna), and our little chats.

My best wishes to you for the future. I hope you grace the airwaves again in the very near future.

Regards,
Samuel Gordon-Stewart

My husband & I are blown away by the article in the Canberra Times today. Surely it cannot be true! No Mike to start the day and no conversations over dinner about what you & Jason spoke of during the 7:25 segment means that we won't be listening to 2CC again.
Please keep us informed of your whereabouts via your website.
All the best to one of the greatest radio presenters ever.

I am very sorry to hear that we are no longer going to hear you in the mornings before 9 am.
The person taking over your spot was never a favored item on our radio.
It looks as if I have to surf the waves and find
some other program to listen 6-9 in the mornings when I an near a radio.
All the best for the future, hope to hear you again soon.

Dear Mike

I opened the Canberra Time this morning and I dont believe what I read.'Boned'. If this is true Canberra has lost the best anchor/broadcaster it has ever had since I moved here in 1965. It's a disgrace. I for one will not be tuning in any more to the morning breakfast show if that other bloke takes your place. H'es enough (in my opinion) to switch to 666. Please keep in contact and advise me of any new 'Plans' for your future.

Best of luck Mike. It was a real pleasure.

Regards

Paul
