In an apparent attempt to piggy back a public relations push on to the government's
Carbon
Reduction and
Abatement
Program, cosmetics entrepreneur Natalie Isaacs wants a million women to join the likes of Anna Bligh, Tanya Plibersek, Christine Milne and Margaret Fulton in making meaningless gestures to demonstrate a holier than thou attitude to saving the environment.
So far, according to the pollsters, the males of Australia are less convinced than the females that CO2 is a bad, bad thing so part of this exercise is for the women to nag the men into going along with this commercially inspired clap trap.
If Ms. Isaacs genuinely wanted to make a statement to show us all how really concerned she is about the environment she would get out of the cosmetics business altogether, encourage women to forsake makeup in all its forms and go out in public looking exactly the way (mother) nature intended.
Here's a portion of what
greenlivingtips.com has to say about cosmetics:
- A cosmetic that's had a lot of attention lately is nail polish. Some brands contain dibutyl phthalate or DBP, a chemical linked to cancer in animals.
- Chemicals commonly found in cosmetics include acrylamide, formaldehyde and ehtylene oxide - all listed by the EPA as carcinogens.
The products of most concern include:
- Hair colour and bleach
- Hair relaxer
- Nail polish and nail treatment
- Toxins include Mercury, Lead Acetate, Ethyllacrylate, Toluene, coal tar and petroleum distillates.
- Even lipstick is cause for concern as it contains man-made oils, synthetic colours and petroleum based waxes.
Fact is, when it comes to caring more for the environment than personal appearance, men are already well ahead.
