04 Mar 2010 - Fast Feedback

Given how I've neglected this site over the past several months, I'm surprised at the speed and number of responses to my recent post, which I've decided on reflection to remove in deference to past good times.

Likewise the comments, insightful and entertaining though they were, will not appear.

But I really appreciate the interest.

I had decided to sit down and be quiet for a while, but there has been such a shift on some of the issues we used to discuss, in the direction many of us predicted, I think I might get back in to it.

Like: Climate Change, so called. The “It's all settled, no further discussion will be entered in to”crowd no longer dominate the debate to the exclusion of other points of view.  BTW have you noticed how we went from Global Warming to Climate Change and now Extreme Weather? When I was a kid Extreme Weather used to be blamed on The Bomb. “Everything changes, everything stays the same” as the French supposedly say. It looks better when they say it, in French, but my French only extends to Black Coffee (Café Noir) and Dry Cleaning (Nettoyage a sec). After that I lose confidence.

Like: the home insulation on the taxpayer extravaganza, which turned in to an even worse debacle than we thought it would.

Like: Obama's approval rating. Anyone who’s ever had a look at the US and what makes it tick would have known from the beginning he's just not what America's all about.

Anyway, thanks again for the interest and entertaining posts.

I'll see what I can come up with in the next few days.

Hi Mike
Great to listen to you during my sleepness nights. Funny at times to listen to some of the conversations as some of the callers just don't get your wit.
Why don't you post a photo of Jack (bet he is gorgeous).

I am delighted to hear you on 2UE at the moment, much better than the bloke who's currently filling in somewhere else. I've missed hearing you in Sydney these past few years but very pleased you've got a permanent possy now - unfortunately my insomnia is not as bad as it used to be! Who's Jack and Jody - I thought there was Kylie somewhere along the way!!

Yes.I have wondered whether the decision to import some of 2GB-namely Ray Hadley and a bit of Alan Jones was because 2CC's Morning ratings sank into a very deep hole after Mike's departure- coupled with the retirememt of John Laws too, probably. However, the afternoons and weekends are still a criminal waste of electricity ( only if you hate sport - but a lot of us do - well- some of us).

I often wonder how you are travelling Mike. Mornings haven't been the same since you departed and the Breakfast Show is frothy and and lacks substance. Your daily Memorandum and intelligent and probing interviews with slippery political types would often make me smile as I visualised their discomfort. You are a real professional and a joy to listen to, hopefully we will hear you again soon, in Canberra or through a relay from Sydney.

Like Dave, I was hoping to hear you were replacing John Laws, then Pricey...oh well..maybe one day. Like all the other comments, there isn't anyone on the airways who can keep the pollies accountable. All the best for the future.

Good to see you are still alive Mike :-)

Remember me i was the one who mailed you about asking KRudd for a copy of his plan and his progress against it. Well I got a waffle of a letter from one of his 20 something minders (after 2 reminders)pointing me to some web sit that listed the Governments achievements. What a crock.

Are you on radio anywhere I miss your dulcet tones in the morning on the way to work. There can be no comparision between you and your successor. If you are still in town I'd really like to meet you for a chat over a beer.

Good to hear from you Mike. I only listen to Jim Ball on 2CC from midnite to 5.30am; then I switch off till 11am. You were the one who first mentioned Jim, and I must say he is quite up-to-date on things Climate Change etc, & I have a pretty extensive collection of facts from him and his callers. Wish you could replace the present incumbent - he's so false, even when he tries to crack a joke. Anyway, looking forward to more feedback.

Hey Mike
Last time I heard Clive mention your name he mentioned that you were engaged to Jody and commented (in his droll way) "what will the children say."
Did you get engaged/married. I always liked the way you talked about your boys (without naming them) and remember you commenting on a particular stroller you had bough.

Hi Mike. Great to see that you have come out of hibernation. There are many people who won't be so happy but we need someone like you to stir them up and keep them accountable.

regarding climate change: news bulletins now have to expressly say whether a particular event is due to climate change, or not. makes me laugh.

i agree that morning radio, on any station, is not worth listening to any more. even abc radio in the morning is (almost) nothing but sport talk.

Hi Mike,

Good to see you back in circulation.

Still missing you on the airwaves. Are you on air 'somewhere' where we can check you out on the net?

Cheers,

Stuart.

Mike, I was sort of hoping that you might take over from Lawsey/Pricey/Timmy/Liebmanny and Hadley. You'd be the ideal replacement.
I've given up on morning/talkback radio along with a lot of others, so I hear.

Do you have plans to return?

We finally have Alan Jones to listen to for an hour in the morning but it is a poor second to waking to your intuitive comments.

Ah! There you are!! Back.

I haven't heard the report you mention. It does rather beggar belief that media folk would go to such lengths to get attention.

Since you, thankfully, don't do that, we just have to come out with it and bluntly ask you to keep us up to date with your doings. Hmmm?
